…I settled on this computer. I didn’t want to spend a lot of money and this one was on sale. It has the longest battery life for netbooks under $300, it has Bluetooth and wireless-n, and most of the reviews are favorable. I charged the battery for a long time the first few times and let it drain entirely before charging it again. I used it all day on the first charge removing and installing programs, etc., and it did not need to be charged until the middle of the next day. The screen is glossy, which I don’t like and don’t understand, but for the price I can overlook this as well as the fact that the outside is also very shiny and smudge-prone. I was expecting all of this from reading the reviews, so it was no surprise. Otherwise, the display is really nice and movies look great on it.
I ran into some network problems because Windows 7 won’t talk to my other laptop that’s running Vista. It’s extremely annoying, and I am still unable to connect to Vista computers (it connects to XP just fine). The sleeve that comes with the netbook actually produced lint that stuck to the shiny outside case of the computer, so expect to buy a better sleeve. I have not had to run any disks on the machine yet, but will need to get my external disk drive out of storage for when the inevitable happens.
This is my first netbook and I thought I would have a hard time adjusting to the size difference, but it really is fun and easy to use. It seems pretty durable; it has already fallen on the stone tile floor without any apparent negative effects. I’m very satisfied with the value and performance so far.
Best Netbook ever! Bought it for my 70 year old Mom. Easy to set up to use for e-mail, skype and the internet.
I bought this as a christmas present for my boyfriend, and HE LOVES IT. It has been almost half a year and he says it still runs perfectly. This is a fast, stylish (very shiny and sleek), and light netbook. I would definitely recommend this to everyone!
I purchased this netbook for my wife for her birthday. She is big user of Facebook and email and would have to fire up our large HP desktop computer and stay there to keep updated before she got this netbook. Now she can surf all day long with this netbook anywhere in the house! She absolutely loves it (I was worried at first since she doesn’t normally like tech gifts).
The only problem we had was that the battery would never charge above about 90%, so the battery charge indicator would never go green. Even with that, it still would run 8+ hours!! After about a month of use, the battery did start charging to 100% (and the indicator turns green now).
I looked at several other models and almost bought the Best Buy version of this Eee PC – DON’T! The Best Buy model seems to use a smaller battery and still costs the same or more than Amazon.
If you need a netbook, this is one of the best.
Fair warning — the computer ran pretty well for the few weeks we had it after Christmas. And then . . . the problems started. Just Google “Windows 7″ and “Public Network.” Our “Netbook” cannot get online. We’ve tried solution after solution with no luck. Do NOT buy this “Netbook” if you want to actually get on the internet!
Very dissatisfied. No support/help from Asus, and of course none from Microsoft. Everyone blames someone else.
