The military backdrop and “wingman” metaphors for this teambuilding/leadership book work well. Even though you may be unfamiliar with the military concepts, that will definitely not keep you from understanding the key points. In fact, even though I was less familiar with those analogies that others, they added to the intrigue of each chapter.
Key concepts in the book: Dealing with your own fear and acting courageously in spite of it. Supporting and sacrificing for your colleagues. Developing the characteristics of leadership. Building trust needed to handle a crisis. Connecting with others on a deeper-than-surface level by admitting your weaknesses. Asking for help when you need it.
The author has a highly readable style and develops his points with lots of personal stories from the battlefront and business.
This is an ideal gift for special people in your life–those you consider to be your special “wingmen,” those who have supported you at critical times in your life.
