My eldest college student son brought this board game home during a college break. My youngest sons 7 and 12 have been asking for it ever since. Now that I have purchased it I enjoy playing it too. It is a great mix of building, bartering and strategy. I love how the resources increase in cost as the demand goes up. A great game to help young teens understand the laws of supply and demand. Highly recommended.
This is a resources managment and bidding game. No it is not like Monopoly, and no it is not like Risk. You are powering plants in Germany or United States in THIS starting game box. You buy power plants, after having open bidding each round, plunk them in cities, connect them to other cities, pay your connection fees, and get paid accordingly, depending on how large a grid of plants you power (whether they be oil, coal, wind, nuclear, or garbage ).The concept is quite simple. We use poker chips to replace the paper money since our poker chips have money values stamped on them and they are quicker to use. The boards are beautifully made, unllike the box cover for Power Grid. There are also expansion maps than can be purchased including France/Italy, China/North Korea, etc. Of our family collection of approximately 75 games, I put this in my top five favourites. It is a refreshing change from the mainstream games that many of us are so tired of. And yes the inventor- Friedemann Friese does dye his hair GREEN !!!!
